What does treatment by a dietitian involve?

Your first appointment with the dietitian will last approximately 60 minutes. During this consultation, the dietitian will gather information about your symptoms, eating habits, and personal characteristics. Together, you will draw up a treatment plan that focuses on your specific goals and wishes. Following this initial consultation, you will receive a personalized dietary plan from the dietitian via email or post.

Follow-up appointments are used to evaluate the treatment plan and dietary instructions, making adjustments where necessary. These sessions typically last 30 minutes, though a shorter 15-minute consultation is also an option.

Depending on your goals, the dietitian may also take certain measurements, such as weighing you and determining your body fat percentage and waist circumference. Naturally, these measurements will not be taken without your consent.

Personalised Nutrition Guidance

At B&B Healthcare, we don’t believe in restrictive diets or generic advice. Nutritional guidance is only effective when it fits your real life, whether you’re at work, dining out, travelling, or dealing with a busy week.

Your journey begins with a comprehensive 60-minute initial consultation. During this appointment, we discuss your current eating habits, measure your weight, body fat percentage and waist circumference, and define your personal goals. Based on this assessment, your dietitian creates a tailored nutrition plan, including:

  • A personalised weekly meal plan
  • Practical supermarket shopping tips
  • Realistic lifestyle and physical activity advice

Follow-up appointments last 15 to 30 minutes and focus on your progress. Together we’ll discuss what’s going well, where you’re facing challenges, and which small adjustments will help you stay on track. This ensures your nutrition plan continues to fit your lifestyle, not the other way around.

Reimbursement

Your basic health insurance policy covers 3 hours (180 minutes) of dietetic care per calendar year. This equates to a maximum of 6 sessions with the dietitian. Please note, however, that your mandatory deductible (*eigen risico*) will apply if it has not yet been exhausted. Rates vary by health insurer; please check your insurer’s personal online portal for details. If your basic insurance coverage is exhausted, or if you choose to pay for the sessions yourself, the rates listed on our website will apply.

You may be eligible for additional hours of dietetic care through your supplementary insurance. However, the hours covered by your basic insurance are used first before any hours from your supplementary policy are drawn upon.

Special integrated care programs have been developed for specific chronic conditions. This applies to individuals with COPD, diabetes, and those at elevated risk of cardiovascular disease. Patients who meet the criteria for an integrated care program receive full reimbursement for treatment, without the mandatory deductible being charged. The general practitioner (GP) or medical specialist holds primary responsibility for this process, and a referral is required.

* For the initial consultation, a standard duration of 90 minutes is billed to your health insurer (60 minutes for the intake interview and 30 minutes for administrative tasks and the preparation and sending of the personalized dietary plan).
