Chest Physiotherapy

Healthy lungs are a vital part of the body. They provide oxygen, which keeps the heart beating and the brain working. Chest physiotherapy (or respiratory psychotherapy) is a specialism within our services. Our highly qualified physiotherapists focus on patients with lung or airway related conditions/disorders. We help relieve symptoms associated with the respiratory system, including shortness of breath, reduced lung volumes and impaired airway clearance. We teach you basal expansion exercises, airway clearance techniques and how to cough effectively.

Initial assessment

First of all, during a comprehensive initial assessment with our lung physiotherapists, we will investigate your conditions and examine your body. The physiotherapist will also check your oxygen percentage in your blood at rest and during exercise (using a saturation meter). During the initial assessment we also measure the degree of shortness of breath (by means of a BORG score). Based on the results, a treatment plan is made for maximum recovery. During and after the treatment assessment, the oxygen percentage and BORG score are measured again to evaluate whether progress has been made.

Our lung physiotherapists guide you through an individual treatment program (2 to 3 times a week). During this process, our specialists focus on the following:

  • Respiratory therapies;
  • Strength and conditioning training;
  • Improving mobility;
  • Respiratory muscle training;
  • Relaxation exercises;
  • Learning good coughing techniques;
  • Education and self-management.
B&B Healthcare has in-house specialists for all lung-related complaints. Make an appointment

Due to COVID’19, my condition was completely gone. I had trouble moving and was completely exhausted within 10 minutes. Thanks to Lloyd’s good guidance, I was able to start exercising again a few weeks later!
