Triggerpoint therapy

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger Point Therapy is a treatment used in physiotherapy to help recovery by reducing micro-cramps in muscles. These micro-cramps often feel like painful, hard “knots”. By applying pressure to these tight spots, we aim to reduce muscle tension and support healing—so oxygen and nutrients can reach the muscle fibres again.

What are trigger points?

Trigger points are small areas in a muscle that feel like a painful hardening or “knot”. Because of the micro-cramp, blood flow and oxygen supply are reduced. This creates a hypersensitive spot. When pressure is applied, it can cause sharp pain and sometimes pain that spreads to another area (referred pain).

How do trigger points develop?

Trigger points often develop after:

  • Overload (doing too much, too long, or too often)
  • Trauma, such as an accident or surgery

Other factors can also play a role, including:

  • Too little exercise
  • Stress
  • Poor diet

Symptoms of trigger points

Trigger points can affect the body in different ways. Possible symptoms include:

  • Stiff muscles
  • Cramp
  • Joint wear
  • Hypersensitivity
  • Inflammatory symptoms
  • Pain
  • Tingling
  • Coordination problems
  • Reduced strength

Trigger Point Therapy at B&B Healthcare

Treatment focuses on trigger point massage combined with clear, practical advice. We also explain how you can apply parts of the massage approach at home, so you can support your recovery between appointments.

In addition, treatment advice can include how to load the muscle safely and how to build strength gradually.

I suffered from stiff shoulders, so I made an appointment with B&B Healthcare. Fortunately, after a few treatments, I was back to my old self and I was able to go to work without any pain.
